Closed and on the road.

Well, it was a pretty wild day. I got up early and drove to Nashville to help my dad do a little work at Lauren’s condo. That went pretty quickly, and so I contacted the title lady to see if I could come sign the paperwork for closing the house. She said yes, so I drove to Smyrna and signed, then headed north to Michigan. The drive was long but uneventful. About halfway there I received word that the buyer had signed and funds had been wired. That was a relief. I arrived at Liz’s parents a little after nine and got to see Luke for a bit before he went to bed. Now I am exhausted.

Drained.

I didn’t sleep too much last night as I kept waking up and checking election results. I hadn’t wanted to, but curiosity got the better of me. I left the cottage a little after six and put down straw at the house. Then I ran a couple of errands before returning to spread out the dirt piles in the front yard. That was difficult and frustrating but I got done. The tractor got a flat tire as I was doing a little digging, so I had to get it repaired. Fortunately a place in town did it. I spent a bit of time taking tools and stuff from the yard to either the storage unit or the cottage. After a last bit of work under the house I was done. I loaded up my flatbed trailer at the cottage and drove home. The drive was uneventful. At home I’ve just been packing to drive to Michigan tomorrow after closing.

Two days to go.

I didn’t get as early a start today due to the pretty cold weather, but once I went outside it wasn’t too bad. I quickly warmed up by spreading gravel and straw. I was spreading more grass seed when I realized that I only had about half as much as I needed. Unfortunately the closest place with more of the same seed was Lowe’s in McMinnville. So I drove an hour each way for more. The drive was pretty but I was pretty stressed about getting things done so I wasn’t too focused on it. I stopped at the little market in Pelham for a late lunch before returning to the house. There I finished spreading the grass seed and fertilizer and put out most of the straw. I just have two more bales to do tomorrow. I briefly left to go to city hall and pick up my certificate of occupancy. I worked until dark and returned to the cottage pretty tired. My mother was there and we talked a bit and had dinner. I have spent most of the evening trying not to follow the election and cleaning up some. I hope to be able to see a final result in the morning.

Getting closer to finished.

It was a nose to the grindstone kind of day. I left around six to return the dump trailer to Tullahoma, came back up the Mountain, loaded up the mini skid steer and took it to Manchester. Then I spread grass seed until a load of gravel got delivered. I spread it and did more seed stuff until dark. I read a bit on my phone and just relaxed. Finally I got pretty hungry and went to Wendy’s for fries and a Frosty.

Not a good start to November.

I got to the house pretty early this morning, though not as early as I could have since the time changed last night. I started moving dirt around and enjoyed having the dump trailer. Things were going well until I got the mini skid steer stuck. Then I got the tractor stuck. I took the dump trailer to the cottage, then came back and hooked up my car to the mini skid. Fortunately my neighbor Kelvin drove by as I was doing this, and he helped me pull it out. Then I was able to get the tractor out by using the bucket as a lever. So a huge relief that that ended okay.

I talked with Kelvin for a while then got back to moving dirt around. I ran the Harley rake a bit and covered up more of the septic tank. Early afternoon the buyer and his realtor came by for a final walk through. That went fine, then I got back to work until dark. After wrapping up I came over to campus and have been taking advantage of their internet. Getting hungry so I will go to Piggly Wiggly soon. Overall I’m feeling pretty good but am ready for this house to be done and closed on. It is supposed to be below freezing tonight and stay cold tomorrow.

I was too busy and/or frustrated to take any pictures today. Actually that’s not true, I took pictures of the house’s interior with my real camera. I’ll post them soon. Tomorrow will be a busy and hopefully productive day. I need to start by returning the rental equipment, then just work all day at the house. There is a good chance I will completely finish everything.
