My dad and I drove down to the farm this morning and got to work. I finished up the goat shed and he worked on the master shower.
Merry Christmas!
It was a pretty low-key day. I tried to sleep in but couldn’t. We went over to Lauren’s for breakfast and the opening of presents. Back at my parents’ I took a nap. We spent the afternoon just relaxing, had a FaceTime call with Liz and Luke, and then had dinner. Afterwards we played a few rounds of a card game called Rook. Below is a picture of a shirt I got for Liz. Haven’t thought of what to get Little Man yet.
Lazy morning, slow drive, goat shed.
I slept in a little this morning and missed the opportunity to see the sunrise. I washed clothes and cleaned the cottage before taking off. The goats weren’t out as I cruised through the campus farm. I drove slowly back to Columbia due to the front end shake. There I started work on Liz’s goat shed. That was pretty fun, even though I didn’t make as much progress as desired. I think it looks pretty good so far. I am a little further along than the pictures show. After dark my dad came and picked me up, and drove me to his house, where we had a nice dinner with Lauren. I’ll stay tonight and tomorrow night before going back to the farm on Wednesday morning.
Cold, wet, bored, unstuck.
The alarm went off at 5:30 this morning, but a trip to the window confirmed that it was cloudy and raining outside. So I went back to sleep for a while. The weather was still nasty a couple of hours later. I just messed around the cottage, reading, planning out some stuff for the house, and trying to relax. At about two this afternoon I called a tow truck. It was an ordeal, but he was able to pull out my car. Unfortunately it seems like my front end got knocked out of alignment pretty good. I drove to Piggly Wiggly and it really started shaking over 45mph. So I’ll drive slowly back to Columbia tomorrow and go to Firestone, where I have lifetime alignments. It was super foggy all afternoon and got dark early. Maybe I’ll be able to see sunrise in the morning. I’ll try to get on the road to Columbia relatively early, since I’ll be driving so slowly. Then I’ll work on Liz’s goat sheds.
Cedar, wheels, and stuck.
The day started simply enough. I took some trash to the dump on my way to Cedar Direct. I stayed there for about three hours just talking and looking at their wood. Finally I left with a bundle of cedar that I’ll use to build Liz’s Christmas present – goat sheds. I dropped the trailer and wood off back at the farm and headed into town to see if the salvage yard had wheels for my military trailer. They did not. It was a little after noon and I wasn’t feeling productive so I decided to go ahead and make for the mountain. I drove through Shelbyville and stopped at a salvage yard there, where I was able to buy a couple of wheels. No tires though. I’ll look for some used ones in Columbia. The rest of the drive was uneventful. At the cottage I turned on the water heater and drove around back to cut firewood. The chainsaw wouldn’t start so I started to leave, and got stuck. Right in the back yard, in a low, muddy spot. I tried to get unstuck to no avail. Got soaked and dirty and muddy before giving up. It was near the end of daylight so I walked to Piggly Wiggly for groceries and Fred’s for a shovel. Back at the cottage I tried unsuccessfully to dig out, but just made more of a mess. So I took another shower and am now just trying to relax. Tomorrow I’ll probably call a tow truck. In the morning if the sky is clear I’ll try to bike to the lake across the street to see the full moon set.
