More shiplap and sheetrock.

It was a good, but not great day. We put more shiplap on the vaulted ceiling and hung some drywall. I went and got a bunch of twelve foot sheets, which are pretty convenient. After my dad left I put some shiplap up in my office and started preparing some siding from the old house to use on a couple of accent walls. I think that the latter will look pretty cool. Tomorrow I think we will focus on drywall.

An even better than expected day.

We didn’t get a very early start, but we sure got a lot done. We finished the long wall in the kitchen/dining room and started on the vaulted ceiling in there. Hopefully we can finish the ceiling tomorrow, but we might run out of shiplap. My dad need to leave early, and won’t be back until next Tuesday. I should still be able to get a lot done by myself though. Today was the last warm day before temperatures plunge. Already it is chilly this evening and sure feels like fall.

Finally making some good progress.

These have probably been the most productive three days of the project. It feels like things are starting to come together. Like yesterday, I worked on shiplap and my dad did drywall. He is pretty much done in the apartment and moved on to the guest bathroom today. Tomorrow I hope to knock out the one remaining wall. It is also the biggest by far, but I might be able to get it done. I was planning on going to Home Depot tonight to get more sheetrock, but it started raining so I will have to go tomorrow.

The project has finally started to be fun. This is the kind of work I like, and the milder weather helps a lot too. There is measurable progress being made every day and it feels like we will eventually finish. For a while that didn’t seem to be the case.

A long and productive day.

We got started at a reasonable time this morning and really got a lot done. I primarily worked on the shiplap again and my dad focused in the drywall, with us each crossing over when the other needed assistance. All four walls in the apartment living room are now finished. I would have liked to have done some more, but ran out of daylight. Tomorrow will be another good day though, as I move over to the main house and begin work in it. I am all set up to knock out the accent wall in the living room. When we went to Ace Hardware this morning we saw Mike Wolfe of American Pickers fame. He seemed nice. We got a little bit of rain this afternoon, which led to a stunning rainbow over the back field. I even got out my real camera to take some pictures, although the ones below are just from my phone. We had lunch at the tasty gyro place near downtown. Tomorrow I also need to go get some more sheetrock, but first need to unload the trailer.

Ship(lap) of fools.

I got an early, but not unreasonable start this morning. I would have been plenty happy to stay in bed for a while longer, but my dad arrived just after seven, and we got started. We did some drywall work, then I went to Home Depot for some more sheetrock and a few other things. We hung some panels in the garage, and after lunch I went over to Chapel Hill for a load of shiplap. I got a pretty good deal on some boards that were a little nicer than I was expecting. Back at the farm we started installing them in the guest apartment. It was pretty slow going at first, but we soon began going pretty quickly. Tomorrow morning I will really set things up better so that we can be more efficient. I think we can really go a lot faster than we did today. But this was a good start. Tomorrow if we can finish the shiplap in the apartment kitchen/living room and the install the recycled siding on one wall of the apartment bedroom then I will be pretty happy. I ran out of daylight before I could get a picture of the shiplap we installed, but below is the trailer loaded down.
