Slow going in the closets.

Another frigid morning. My dad was mudding and taping drywall and I started of by hanging sheetrock in the closets. Wow it was tedious! I had to use a bunch of little scraps because the doors were too small to admit larger pieces. I didn’t even finish two closets this morning. After lunch we hung sheetrock in the master bedroom. That felt like it went a lot faster. I didn’t take pictures though. After my dad left I put a pice of sheetrock on the half bath ceiling and hung some more in the pantry. I also cleaned up a bit before running out of daylight. Tomorrow I think we will try to finish the shiplap on the vaulted ceiling in the kitchen/dining room. Now it has gotten cold again. We are making great progress again this week though. I am feeling pretty good about things.

Plugging away on drywall.

It was pretty chilly this morning and I didn’t have a jacket. The work warmed me up pretty quickly though. We installed sheetrock in Luke’s room and then I went to Chapel Hill to give the Cedar Direct guys a sample of the siding I’m looking for. After that I ate lunch at a little barbeque joint around the corner. Picture below. We worked on sheetrock in the master bedroom until dark.

Flying solo but still productive.

My dad played golf today so I was on my own. I actually drive down last night after Liz and Luke went to bed. That enabled me to get going fairly early this morning. I started by putting up the ceiling in my office. I used old metal roofing material from a shed I tore down behind the cottage in Monteagle. Obviously I’m biased, but I think it looks pretty cool. If there is enough left I might see how Liz feels about using it in the apartment living room. That would be much easier and faster than the old flooring. Next I finished up the walls in my office.

I had to go over to Chapel Hill for more shiplap. I got a nice lunch at a gas station deli with a raspberry scone for dessert. Back at the house I unloaded the shiplap and installed an accent wall in Liz’s office. Then I cleaned up and organized a bit. My dad arrived as it was getting dark and we went to Home Depot in Spring Hill for some drywall mud and a few other things. We will both spend the night here and put in a long day tomorrow.

A strong finish to the week.

We focused on drywall today. Got Liz’s office and the spare bedroom finished. They each have a wood accent wall that I’ll finish later. After my dad left I spent some time cleaning up. I also cut and cleaned the old siding that will go in the apartment bathroom. It should install fairly easily. I also cut shiplap for the master bath and my office. I’ll take tomorrow off to relax with Liz and Little Man, but will be back at it on Monday. I need to go get more shiplap and sheetrock. It’s supposed to be raining though. The fireplace guys installed the pipe for the wood stove today. It will be a little tricky to install sheetrock around. This was probably our most productive week on the project, and possibly the most fun. It should just keep getting better and better as we roll towards the finish line.
